Shared Values/Goals:
We all share an interest in the data set and the prospect of the project we are working on. It seems like the final output will tell us a lot about the alumni network which impacts all of us as we are in the market for internships and jobs. We also have a shared value in producing a valuable product and want to be successful in our output. We agree that there is an importance in putting in effort in group assignments because we all value doing our best on class-work. While we all have different skill levels, we share a goal of learning through the process.
Expectations of each other:
Open communication–about when we are able to meet, what we are capable of contributing to the group, advice about areas we are individually confident in. We want to be sure we communicate our individual progress and changes so that everyone is included throughout the whole process. Overall, this will help us to divide responsibilities based on our skills and interest, but also allow us to create a collaborative environment.
Communication:
We plan to communicate via a text groupchat to make sure everyone is able to ask questions/share ideas. We also want to use these means to communicate times that we are available to meet outside of class. This method of communication is easily accessible to all of our group members.
Handling Disagreement:
Through our communication methods we are aiming to be inclusive in listening to other ideas because we all understand the varying backgrounds in terms of the humanities and computer science. Being open to other group members’ ideas will allow us to make the best product that we can by considering the strengths of each member. If we run into disagreements along the way, we will make sure to talk through them with the group and decide what will work best for all of us. It is important that people explain the reasoning behind their disagreements so that we can find common ground.
Dividing Responsibilities:
Doug– Has a background in computer science as a major, so he will be responsible for creating subdomain, other computer science heavy processes.
Ty – Feels confident in making maps in ArcGIS so he will be responsible for the creation of web maps for a few graduation years.
Maya – Feels confident from past class work in making interactive graphs so she wil be responsible for making graphs of our data over time.
Chris – Has some experience and understanding of data science, so he will be responsible for making csv file of data and organizing data to be used by rest of the group.
Hermela – Has more limited computer science background, but has some data science understanding so will be responsible for helping with the csv and webscraping and will do other overall organization of individual pieces.
