  1. Making the water bottle was a bit frustrating at first because of the overwhelming amount of features to choose from in Fusion 360. After a while of familiarizing myself with the controls, it became much simpler.
  2. One thing that was particularly frustrating was using the orbit feature to look at my water bottle from different angles. I think the reason why is because the orbit feature moves in three dimensions while the control for it (my trackpad) only moves in two dimensions.
  3. I tried to make sort of ribbed edges on the top of the water bottle for where someone could screw on a cap but I couldn’t figure out how to make them spiral downwards so a cap would actually work. Instead they are just rings that have a clear purpose but aren’t actually functional.
  4. I think Fusion 360 could be used for a lot of teaching purposes. For example, if mechanical engineering students were asked to make something, they could model it in Fusion 360. It could also be used for creating house remodeling plans or various other tasks that require visual plans.
  5. One tip I would like to share with other novice Fusion 360 users is that you can limit the orbit tool to only move in two dimensions. Just click on the arrow next to the orbit tool then click on constrained orbit.

  1. I think you did a really good job. You are more brave than me as I abandoned my water bottle dreams. It seems as though we had a lot of similar challenges and I suggest looking on Youtube as that helped me a lot with my object. If you were to do it again I would maybe put water in your bottle (not needed just my preference).

  2. I also tried using the orbit tool to look at my model using my laptop’s trackpad. It was definitely frustrating at times and at one point the whole screen started moving with my cursor and I couldn’t figure out how to make it stop. I ended up just using the cube in the top right corner and clicking to access different views. Your model looks really good though, especially with the glossy finish and ribbed top part.

  3. Well done!! This water bottle is very close to that in reality. It is frustrating but you made it. I also dreamed of making hollow items but then found it was difficult to accomplish. Limiting the orbit tool is a trick I used when I created my model, which is really helpful.

  4. This was very well done! I appreciate the level of detail in the bottle, especially the grooves you added to the nozzle. As others have mentioned, hollow items gave me a lot of trouble too, so I really appreciate your advice on using that tool in the future!

  5. This is a nice model. I also faced a similar problem, there were so many functions and tools available that I wasn’t sure where to start. One tip I would recommend, which is what I did is, to get very familiar with the basic functions first. There is a lot you can do with just the basic functions, then you can move on to others.

  6. The water bottle design is very neat. I am curious how did you combine and layer the different shapes? Also how long did it take you to complete it?
