Clay’s Reflection

Hey, this is Clay, I just had my procedure so I wasn’t actually able to be there, but I’m writing a reflection based on Scott Hudson and AJ R.

The goal of the assignment was to create a 3D model of an artifact from the Weitz’s basement, also known as storage for the Perlman teaching Museum. I used to work in Perlman which is why I thought the assignment was particularly cool and why I am upset that I had to miss it.  These artifacts were donated by a very nice woman from California who decided that Carleton didn’t have enough pieces, so she decided to give them to Carleton instead of Stanford where she initially intended.  I thought this was a really cool opportunity for me to interact with the work I’ve been watching over as a Museum Attendant. I have also always been really interested in 3D modeling so I love when we are assigned assignments like this. Reflecting back on this class as a whole, my favorite assignment was the first one where we used Fusion 360 for 3D modeling.

Ever since middle school I have been particularly interested in 3D modeling.  I hope in this class we get to explore Unity (I saw it appeared in our last class’s slides).  I believe that 3D modeling is a great way to bring artifacts to life that one may not get to travel to.  The examples that Austin has given us has changed my view on 3D modeling as a whole. I’ve only thought of it as a way to make video game environments rather than to preserve history.  My scope of the use of 3D modeling has been expanded in this class and I am really upset I was not there to help take pictures and be a team member.

Luckily since I am friends with AJ I was able to stay in the loop. It was relayed to me by my partners that they have had massive amounts of technical difficulties to carry out the project. I can relate as I had the same problem with licensing in class and it is too bad it was so hard to resolve.  This has given me a great deal of respect for my peers and people in the industry.

This is spoken word on Clay Haddock’s behalf, but he was not well enough to type or sit up.  This was typed out by Leib Bendersky, a Finance major at Baruch College.
