I found the process of creating a map in ArcGIS to actually be pretty simple and intuitive. The website did most of the work by automatically plotting the points on the map for me and all I had to do was upload the csv of my data. A few changes we made to the map were changing the shape and size of the points of our locations and also creating blue labels of the location to make the map easier to view. We also obviously added the lines so that you could follow the path of the object. I think ArcGIS has a ton of potential because I found the website and map maker to be extremely simple and helpful, I didn’t have to do a ton of work to make any changes to my map. This should be really helpful for the Digital Humanities as there may not be as many people who are technically-savvy as others so the easier the app, the better and more useful it is. ArcGIS definitely could be upgraded and improved even more but it is in a very good spot right now in my opinion.
Lab Assignment Week 6
My group pretty much made the same observations about ArcGIS. It was fun to experiment and explore the features. I loved hearing about the process your group went through to create such a cool map. The path from your artifact’s origin to Northfield is clear to the viewer and the labels are very informative.
My group was also able to make the map very easily, though I was quite surprised when upon further testing the upper limit of what can be done with ArcGIS was found to be very high. I like your group’s use of colors, but for the points I would recommend using pointers that signify only 1 point on the map instead of a circle, which covers an area.
