The process of creating my own digital map was definitely really interesting. First, this work definitely makes me appreciate the crazy amount of work that goes into map-making. While making the map was by no means super difficult, the amount of work and expertise required to make a large map showing many different things at once is very impressive. I also definitely gained a huge respect for the amount of work put into mapping and the things that you are able to map are extremely cool. The map has a few different formats you can rectify in. The first is a Web Map Tile Service that you can place directly onto ArcGIS or QGIS. The second is a TileJSON link that is used for metadeta and the last is a URL that gives direct access to map tiles. There are a lot of possibilities with a georectified map. You can make maps for almost any historical events or periods where historically-accurate maps are available and provide an in-depth analysis for those historical events. Next steps would be a super high-defenition 3D interactive map, which we have but we there are definitely some improvements still left to be made in the near-future. I think a potential problem that could be had while geo-referencing could be historical map inaccuracies, where maybe your map is not exactly accurate to the maps of the time or inaccuracies by people creating the map as the map may not be perfectly accurate. I’d say a geo-referenced map may not be good for creating future maps because it may be tough to digitally recreate maps that indicate future changes in the world. I also think that it may tough for smaller maps as it could hard to recreate the exact dimensions of a smaller area as you would need very fine tools.
