This was an interesting project, it showcased the relationships between characters and communities for each season of game of thrones. It also includes some visualization techniques that help make it more engaging.
How are the relationships characterized and categorized?
This project creates a network of the relationships of different characters in the Game of Thrones series. Each Character has a line running from themselves to the characters they interacted with or have interacted with.
However, members of the same community are placed next to each other. Therefore, the project not only showcases the relationships between the characters within a specific community, but also the relationships between the communities.
What (or who) are the nodes and what are the edges?
In this project, the nodes are the characters, visualized by a circle. The edges are the lines running from each character to the others. In the project, there are 187 nodes(characters) and 684 edges(relationships). These account for 7366 interactions across the project.
What interactions does the project allow?
The project has a few components that make it more interactive. Firstly, the circles of those who have more connections to their characters are larger circles. Therefore we can see which characters are the most connected to others, this tells us which characters are central to the story. Secondly, the connection between each character is weighted. The stronger the relationship between two characters, the thicker the lines that connect them are.
How does this impact their effectiveness and/or your engagement?
The weighted nodes make it easier for you to see who the main characters are in each season. Similarly, the weighted edges make it easier to see which relationships are stronger in each season. They allow you to get a better grasp of the important characters and relationships in each season.
