Blog Post 2: Digital Humanities Reflection

Each has brought to this endeavor theoretical and conceptual engagements based

upon personal experience, a commitment to experimental forms of scholarship,

and expertise working with media, developing digital platforms, and engaging in

design practice.

Burdick et al. “One: Humanities to Digital Humanities,” in Digital_Humanities (Cambridge, MA: MIT Press, 2012), vii.

While I was reading through Burdick’s work on they talked on a lot of insightful changes in the transition from humanities to digital humanities. I decided to go back and read through the preface which I skipped originally and I discovered this paragraph which I thought says a lot about what humanities is derived from. This quote really resonated with me and I think is the essence of what digital humanities is about. The power of collaboration can achieve the unimaginable and how our backgrounds and personal experiences have shaped us and been able to push our world of technology as far as it has come.

This makes me reflect on my current interests as well as my future plans because of how much potential there is in working with a team. As someone who is aspiring to work in the field of technology in the future, I think it is easy to be overwhelmed by all the advances technology has made, especially recently with all the AI technology being made. I often find myself thinking that I would not even know where to begin in making something remotely close to, for example, an AI that can create an entire image just from a few words. I think it is important to take a step back and realize that a lot of this is done with the power of collaborating and a bunch of experience as well. There is so much to learn about technology and learn from one another and I think that is what makes me excited to be working in technology for my future endeavors.

I think that this class will be an amazing opportunity to learn more about a field I really do not have a lot of experience in. I think something big that I can take away from this class is when I am working on my own technical project to be able to ask myself questions such as what is my goal is in making this and laying that solid foundation will help make the project itself. I think that the final project for this class will be a good practice in working with a group and asking ourselves those kind of questions.
