Modeling a rocket(?)

The process of modeling a minimalist rocket in fusion 360

Let’s see, I had quite a bit of fun learning this new tool and modeling this rocket. There is not terribly much significance my design choice, but I thought it would be cool to model a realistic space shuttle. However, I quickly realized that was beyond my current skill and the scope of the project. So instead I opted for a more fanciful design. If I were to expand upon this project I would spend more time individually coloring separate pieces; the color scheme in my head would be some combination of red, orange, and white.

The trickiest part about the modeling process for me was getting the proportions correct, but I think I am satisfied with the end result. Each piece is around the correct size in tandem with the others. Another tricky part was the two thin fins on the side. I knew I wanted more accents on the side of the rocket, and originally I wanted to create two right triangles jutting from the sides; however, I could not figure out how to sketch and create that shape. So I tried my best to create the slanting fins that you see now.

  1. I think it’s really cool that you were trying to do something so ambitious for your first model. I appreciate how you talk about your challenges with the fins. I couldn’t figure out how to triangular designs on my own model, so I think it is impressive that it turned out looking this good, even if it wasn’t exactly what you want.
