Trying to model a hammock and then a bed

I had a lot of trouble with Fusion 360. To start with, I was unable to access the software for much of last week. I eventually managed to download the software on my computer, but I did not understand it. All I managed to do was to get a solid block on the axis, and then I couldn’t do anything from there. Once I watched the instructional videos, I managed to actually work the software. At first, I wanted to make a hammock, because I have a hammock at home that really enjoy reading and hanging out in. I really struggled a long time to try to do this, but I was unable to do it. I tried to have different segments that were at an angle in relation to one other, but that didn’t work. Instead of having 3d shapes at sharp angles, I ended up having to use shapes that only existed at multiples of 90 degrees. I eventually just made a simple bed instead.

The main thing tool that I think is important for a novice to use is the sketch tool. I had no idea what I was doing when I started using Fusion 360. It was only after I had watched the tutorial videos from the makerspace that I knew how to use the Sketch tool. The Sketch tool allows you to set up your 3D model in a 2D shape originally, as opposed to trying to drag 3D shapes onto your model.

  1. I relate to what you wrote about the tough parts of using the software — I also found it really difficult! A hammock sounds to me like it would be extremely hard for a first-time user, and honestly maybe even for an experienced user — there aren’t many simple shapes in it (but again, I do not know what I’m talking about). I think the bed looks nice! The floating section between the pillows in the middle and the flat top of the bed are features that I couldn’t really figure out myself.
