Box of oranges

First-ever 3D Model

I made a box of oranges for my 3D model. My experience with modeling in Fusion360 was a sort of a mixed bag. I found it pretty easy to create and then manipulate various objects, but one thing that I found difficult was trying to alter one side of an object without affecting the other. It took me many attempts to edit one side of the box I made without affecting the other side. That was the main part that bogged me down. Another part that bogged me down trying to add certain details to objects, I had to restart a few times because I couldn’t add certain details to my object. I had to change my desired object a few times because I just couldn’t figure out how to make it work. I think this tool would be really important for visualizing possible future projects being made in real life and making them easier to replicate. A tip that I have would be to just be patient and if you are struggling, there are plenty of resources on the web that can help.

  1. This looks really good! I especially like the texture detail on the objects inside the box and the hooks on the sides of the box. For just editing one side, maybe something you could do is zoom in on the part of the model you are trying to edit, that way you have more surface area to click on for that part and therefore making it easier to edit. You could maybe come back to this project and edit the appearance/texture of the box once you gain more experience using the software.

  2. I think you did a really good job on this project. I particularly like how you made the handles of the box with what looks like the shell feature. I also liked how you added a texture to your oranges to make them look more orange-like. I would also guess that you used the offset plane feature to get your oranges on the box which I thought was clever. Great job all together!

  3. Hey Ty, I am very impressed by your box of oranges. In particular, I have no idea how to make my model textured and colored, as well as how to create spheres. In regards to your problem of editing one side of the box without having mirrored, have you considered creating a separate body and merge them together? Finally, can you provide some of the online resources you mentioned in the end? I would really appreciate the help.

  4. Hi Ty, I really like your box of oranges! Although I couldn’t tell at a glance, once I read that they were oranges in a box, I could really see it. The texture and the color of the oranges are perfect. The only thing I would suggest adding is more detail on the box. I think right now the oranges are great but the box needs a little more love by adding texture perhaps. Great job!

  5. I love the concept of the design and the fact that this was your first time working with fusion 360 is pretty amazing! I am curious how you manage to manipulate the objects, since I had great difficult on my 3D model.

  6. This is a super cool model! It’d be interesting to see some more texture on the box to really bring it to life.

I could imagine this model being in a modern art museum; without context, there could be many interpretations of what the objects represent. A box of oranges, orange golf balls in a drawer, nuclei… the possibilities are endless!
