Cool project, Carl! It’s really interesting that Dickens, despite his concentration on the die need for social reform at his time, used positive language far more regularly than negative. I feel like that’s not the norm, and is an interesting analytical insight that Voyant helps make more concrete. I agree that there is a lot of potential use for these kinds of tools!
This analysis is quite detailed, though I would like ask if it’s possible for you to embed the links to make the Voyant tools’ result more interactive? I was under the impression that such an action is possible with Voyant tools. Other than that, this is a very interesting analysis and might even be applicable to nowadays’ speeches from politicians. Great job!
This is a great way to analyze speeches. I definitely like your method of finding the frequency of different words. I specifically thought that the words you chose to track were a great choice (words like institution and society). I think this could be applicable to a number of texts, and used in junction with close reading I think this could reveal a lot of really cool themes.
Your analysis is very detailed and insightful. Using relative frequencies of words in Charles Dickens’ speeches to potentially track the shifts in his perspective on society is cool! I like your reflection in the last paragraph about how you could improve to make this project better. One suggestion is that you can make your data visualization more interactive so that the presentation could be more engaging.
Hi I like your analysis a lot, it really provides valuable insight into the work. However, your textual analysis might be a little limited, since you only resorted to cirrus. Besides I am just curious how you incorporated voyant results into an embedded interactive model, which I failed to do.
