Scott Hudson’s Midterm

Here is the link to my midterm. The embedded visualization and write-up are both there. Hope you all like it!

  1. I’m always surprised by how powerful photogrammetry can be. It consistently creates very detailed, interactive models. You chose quite an interesting statue to model; I enjoyed reading about its origin.

And you’re right. It’s a shame that this software is proprietary (at least we have access to it).

  2. Great job with the embed of the 3D model! Photogrammetry is a great tool for 3D visualization and it was interesting to hear about the history of the object and the compromises you had to make. The compromises made during the process are important to note as they provide points of reflection on what could’ve been done better or what could be tried next time. I tried looking at your Omeka entry but I don’t think the link works, though I’m sure it was great!

  3. Your 3D model turned out so well! I didn’t know about all of the steps necessary to include a 3D model onto a website, but your dedication to getting the 3D model embedded onto your site was worth it. Hopefully in the future 3D models can be utilized more to preserve historical artifacts in case the original gets damaged. If this was like a sneak peak, I look forward to seeing how your final project turns out!

  4. Such a cool midterm project! I am really amazed by how clear and detailed the final model is — it’s really spectacular! I also lament the fact that the photogrammetry algorithm is private. I honestly don’t really understand exactly how ReCap seems to magically create these models and I wish we had more insight into what was going on behind the scenes.
