Midterm Assignment (Rowen H.)

My midterm assignment is linked here. The Cushman map I made may take a few seconds to load at the top of the page.

  1. I think your project is very interesting! I like how you use web mapping as a tool to give the viewer a behind the scenes type view of the artwork created by the artist. I also appreciate the way you decided to color code the points by year because that creates an additional layer to the patterns outlined. Similarly, the way you organized and cleaned up the pop-up makes it easy to follow and view.

  2. Awesome job, Rowen! I agree with Maya’s statements. Color coding the points by year adds an additional layer of depth and readability to your map. ArcGIS can definitely be a tricky tool to wield, but I think you did a great job representing these photos in a spatial medium. I think my favorite photo is ‘Market Street’ because I find it quite funny.

  3. Hey Rowen, I’m impressed that you decided to use ArcGIS for your midterm. It was very difficult for me but it looks like it turned out really well for you now that you’ve got the hang of it! I definitely agree with the limitations you stated about web maps. If you have too much information it becomes overwhelming and impossible to decipher.

  4. Great project, Rowen! I’m also impressed that you used ArcGIS – I know I had some trouble with it in class, so it’s cool to see you were able to do a larger map with it. Your presentation choice to separate 1966 and 1967 photos by color is a good one – it helps visualize Cushman’s interior to coast progression quite well. Nice job!

  5. Very cool project! I had a lot of trouble plotting even a few points in ArcGIS so I’m impressed with your ability to make a map with so many points. In this era of animated data visualizations I usually see animations that represent change over multiple years, but I think your color coding works great and clearly highlights a pattern. Great job!
