DGAH Midterm Project

This is the link to my subdomain containing my midterm project. I showcased the hand-holding relationships between X-Men characters by issue number.

  1. Interesting project. I also used X-men data for the same reason, I think having some familiarity with the data made it easier to choose what relationships to show. I showed relationships but they were between characters in different covers. One difference I like with your visualization is that it is color coded, I think this makes interpreting the data a lot easier.

  2. I wish I could’ve used Flourish for my project because I think the customizability is a lot more developed than RawGraphs.io, but unfortunately I couldn’t get it to work with my data. I think the style of your graph is quite interesting and is easy to read. I especially like the feature of being able to hover over the points and see the character names. I also had to go through the same process of data cleaning for my data, a tedious process for sure. Great job on the project!

  3. I also used Flourish for my project, but in a completely different way so it’s intriguing to see how many different data visualization functions the platform has. I like how you can see the names of the characters when you hover over them, although I feel like permanent labels might even work well on this one since it’s harder to interpret without more verbal information. I love the project though!

  4. This is a super cool project! I really like your final data visualization, and I appreciate how it is clear enough to be easily digestible without having to spend a ton of time staring at and examining it. Your point about data cleaning making your life a lot easier also really resonated with me — I definitely agree! Data cleaning makes a huge difference when it comes to extracting information from a data set, and I also agree that you don’t always need to use all of the data available to make a good and meaningful visualization.
