This was a very interesting process. I tried georeferencing many different maps but this is the one I settled on.
Did this process change your understanding of the spatial DH projects you explored earlier?
The most interesting part of the process was seeing the different ways data can be presented with GIS systems. I thought that creativity could allow you to present research findings in a new way.
Examine the This Map page, what formats can you access the map you rectified in?
This page provides a lot of information about the map and also allows me to export it to GEOTIFF or use it in GIS apps.
What possibilities do you see once you have a georectified map? What would be the next steps?
As mentioned earlier, once the map is rectified it can be used in GIS apps. Gis apps can then allow you to manipulate the map in some way to present some type of spatial data. This makes it very useful for data visualizations in the Humanities.
Are there problems with georeferencing that you should consider?
There is one big problem that I encountered with the first map I used. When I started mapping the points I noticed that some of the countries were slightly distorted so I continued to map more points in the countries that were distorted. After this I noticed the entire mao was distorted, then I realized this was happening because the map I used was circular.
What research questions or areas would this method NOT be appropriate for?
I think this process is very useful for presenting spatial data, be very creat it allows you to be very creative with the different ways you can present the data. This method would not be appropriate for any type of research questions or areas that may not need or benefit from visualizing spatial data.
