Trying My Best to Model My Phone

For this assignment, I used Fusion 360 to model my phone (a Google Pixel 7 Pro), something that I spend a lot of time with and use to communicate with others and learn about what’s going on in the world.

1. It was definitely nice to get a refresher on how to use 3D modeling software since I had not used it since middle school. I would say the overall difficulty of creating the model was not bad, there were just a few things that were much harder to do than others.
2. One of the things that bogged me down the most was adjusting the oval shapes to create the buttons and holes. Adjusting the size and getting the more “rounded rectangle” shape proved to be too difficult. Another thing I wanted to do was make the model more color accurate, but I didn’t know how to change and blend colors in Fusion 360.
3. Some compromises that I had to make were leaving the colors as is and trying my best to approximate the shapes and sizes of holes and buttons even if they were not completely accurate.
4. I believe 3D modeling is great tool for visualizing relics and artifacts that may be too damaged to restore in real life. It allows us to study the practices and forms of expression of early peoples and track how we have evolved over time.
5. I found the “Sketch” and “Extrude” tools to be quite useful in creating structures and holes not in the shape of a circle. For example, I created sketches of ellipses on one side of my model and then extruded them outward from the model to create physical buttons. You can extrude into the model as well to create holes.
